Here are some of the events that we held during our Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week at Juanita High School:

We created and presented a homelessness informational PowerPoint to the students of Juanita High School. Some topics that were covered included: common misconceptions surrounding homelessness, the impact of COVID-19 on the homeless population, and King county homelessness statistics. At the end of the presentation, we asked students to either submit a kind message to an individual experiencing homelessness, or an interpretation of the presentation, highlighting what they learned. See presentation here.
2. New Bethlehem Day Center Meal Donations: We donated 2 meals to the New Bethlehem Day Center in Kirkland, WA on 11/18 & 11/19. Some of the dishes donated by our wonderful club members included: pasta primavera, sloppy joe casseroles, salad, and turkey-cheese wraps!
3. Friends of Youth Care Package Donations: JHS students helped create 242 sanitation care packages + extra materials to donate to the youth experiencing homelessness at the Friend of Youth shelter in Kirkland, WA. Some of the items inside these packages include: hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, toothpaste, wipes, and more!
*Special thanks to the City of Kirkland for providing AFH with the Youth Mini Grant of $1000, which funded the care package initiative.
